WorkCover Data Warehouse

We provided an IT consultant to lead a team to develop a data warehouse for WorkCover.

Strategic and operational managers required WorkCover specific reports, flexible ad-hoc reporting and actuarial analysis. The WorkCover data warehouse was developed to fulfil these requirements.

Bridge Information System

We provided a consultant to the Department of Main Roads to lead a team of 3 developers, 4 acceptance testers and 2 technical writers to develop their Bridge Information System.

The Bridge Information System is an application for recording structural and condition information about bridges and culverts which is used to inspect and maintain structures, determine load carrying capacities, determine heavy vehicle routes and assist in the valuation of assets throughout Queensland.

Our consultant performed the following tasks for the Department of Main Roads:

  • Created project plans and task estimates encompassing design, development, acceptance testing, documentation, training and technical support.
  • Performed design reviews with system owner and key users.
  • Performed quality/progress reviews.
  • Prepared development architecture and environment including PC setup, support tools and utilities.
  • Prepared test data, test plans and test environment.
  • Prepared training database and training course material.
  • Held business requirements workshops throughout Queensland.

The Bridge Information System is currently used throughout Queensland by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Job Management System

North Brisbane Trees wanted to implement a job management solution for estimating, quoting, invoicing, scheduling and tracking of jobs.

We helped them find and assess available products in the market place and select the best solution for their business. We then installed and configured the system to align with their business practices and provided initial training and support before handing over on-going support to the product vendor.

Trusted Pest Management wanted to replace an existing inadequate job management system for estimating, quoting, invoicing, scheduling and tracking of jobs including mobile access for their field service staff.

We helped them find and assess available products in the market place and selected the best solution for their business. We then installed and configured the system to align with their business practices, converted/cleansed/imported the data from their old system and provided on-going support.

Asset Management

We provided an IT consultant to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to manage the procurement of an Asset Management Solution.

The Asset Management solution significantly improved the department’s ability to pro-actively manage the maintenance of its electrical and electronic assets, particularly street lighting and traffic signals.

Energy Usage Profiling

The Profiling system enables Energex to analyse clients’ energy consumption and forecast future consumption. The profiling results are used for the generation of quotes and associated contracts.

Suncorp Data Warehouse

We provided an IT consultant to Suncorp to develop strategies and techniques for the management and development of Suncorp's data warehouse.

This was a major new initiative in the Banking arm of Suncorp. The new data warehouse supports both regulatory reporting and internal management reports.

Our consultant performed the following tasks for Suncorp:

  • Defined overall architecture and metadata strategy.
  • Defined MIS management processes, roles and responsibilities, requirements definition standards and data mapping specification techniques.
  • Designed a metadata management tool for design and testing, and to produce “lineage” reports to allow everyone to understand the data derivations and transformations.
  • Acted as Team Leader, delivering the initial release and coordinating activities between the analysts, architects, ETL developers and testers.

Asset Data Modelling

Our consultant performed the following tasks for Toowoomba Regional Council:

  • Provided advice on how data should be modelled.
  • Provided advice on options for data interfaces TRC systems
  • Assisted in the development and implementation of plans to test data interface processes
  • Assisted TRC staff with specification of data migration plans from current system to the new system.

Road Asset Management

We provided an IT consultant to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to provide expert Business Intelligence(BI) advice, to design and govern the quality of the data warehouse and BI solution, and to manage the technical aspects of the project, including testing and implementation.

The project introduced integrated, flexible reporting of trusted information for asset and performance management of the Queensland main roads system.

Our consultant performed the following tasks for the Department of Transport and Main Roads:

  • Advised on the appropriate approach and staffing for the project.
  • Assisted with recruitment of business analysts and selection by tender of a partner company to provide the BI development skills for the project.

Ministry of Leads wanted a system that all staff, including remote staff, could use for recording actions, outcomes and tasks relating to telemarketing activities. They also required management reporting capabilities.

We developed a bespoke SharePoint web app telemarketing system for The Ministry of Leads which aligned with their business practices and allowed for remote operations and central management of telemarketing activities.

Point Of Sale Solution

The purpose of this project was to identify and assess stock control & POS systems available in the market place against Griffith University's business requirements and industry best practice regarding the management of food and retail; and to recommend a stock control & POS systems(s) to replace Griffith University's current systems.

Asset Management System

Active Mobility Maintenance wanted to implement an Asset Tracking and Maintenance Solution.

We investigated potential solutions and recommended an Asset Management System that would:

  • Enable Active Mobility Maintenance to print and attach QR code labels to assets.
  • Manage customer details.
  • Track asset maintenance and financial history.
  • Manage service requests and scheduled maintenance.

Software Licence Management

We provided a consultant to the Department of Main Roads to work with a team implementing the Office of Government ICT Software Licence Management (IS45) standard.

Main Roads implemented the Software Licence Management (IS45) standard to improve the management of software licences and to improve the management of software assets in general. The project delivered improved Software Licence Management capabilities by developing and implementing roles and responsibilities, policies, processes, procedures and tools related to software asset management.

  • Defined an IS45 Strategy for Main Roads.

We provided a consultant to Queensland Police Service to lead a team of 8 business analysts and 12 police officers to document the requirements for an Incident Recording, Management and Investigation System.

Queensland Police Service was replacing more than 150 disparate legacy systems with a single integrated policing system. A major focus of this project was to improve business processes through integration and rationalisation of existing applications.

Queensland Health had implemented a Business Analysis Unit to perform business analysis for ICT projects within Queensland Health. They were having a number of issues with providing business analysis services to projects and we provided a consultant to review and improve their processes, methodologies and tools.

Our consultant performed the following tasks for Queensland Health:

  • Reviewed the Business Analysis Unit work practices, processes, methodologies and tools.
  • Implemented risk/issue management and change management processes.
  • Recommended and implemented improvements to Business Analysis Unit work practices, processes, methodologies and tools.

Road Crash System

We provided a consultant to the Department of Main Roads to lead a team of 3 developers, 2 acceptance testers and 1 technical writers to develop their Road Crash System.

The Road Crash System is an application for analysing crashes and implementing remedial treatments to those roads which produced the best benefit cost ratio.

The Road Crash System is currently used throughout Queensland by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Application Rationalisation

We provided an IT consultant to work with a team to investigate opportunities to rationalise Main Roads software applications.

Main Roads wanted to reduce the number of software applications being used from 4000 to 200. The objective of the project was to identify what, where, how and why existing applications were being used and to make recommendations to significantly reduce the current number of applications being used in Main Roads.

Our consultant performed the following tasks for the Department of Main Roads:

  • Defined application rationalisation investigation approach.
  • Defined application rationalisation investigation methodologies, tools and templates.
  • Identified current state applications in use across 13 districts across Queensland.
  • Performed stakeholder interviews to obtain application details, evaluate business value and assess the technical condition of each application.
  • Analysed information collected for approximately 4000 applications.
  • Developed an application rationalisation investigation report containing a number of recommendations to reduce the number of applications and to prevent application proliferation from reoccurring in the future.

Executive Information System

We provided an IT consultant to Telstra to lead a team of 8 developing a new Executive Information System.

The objective of the project was to integrate HR, financial and operational data to provide a tool for the CEO and senior managers to identify issues and drive the resolution of these issues.

Billing System

We provided a consultant to Energex to help them migrate seven Queensland electricity boards to a common billing system.

Energex and the other boards needed to perform a substantial data migration to a common billing system. Our consultant was required to analyse their requirements and to devise methods by which they could complete the data migration within a very tight deadline.

Our consultant developed a suite of tools for the teams of data analysts to specify requirements for data integrity and processing. The tools checked the specifications and automatically generated programs to perform the data migration and integrity checks. Using the tools, all the electricity boards successfully their migrated to the common billing system.
